Share our Excitement & Join our Journey

Welcome to the travel blog of Rotary District 5580's Group Study Exchange (GSE) Team which will embark on an exciting five week goodwill / vocational exchange to Nagoya, Japan in November, 2009.

Here, our hybrid American-Canadian team of enthusiastic and adventurous young professionals, along with our lovely, talented and fearless team leader, will share cultural experiences and engage in unique vocational learning opportunities.

If you have come to this site, you are likely: a Rotarian, family member, friend or colleague of one of the team members, or... are just plain blog-curious. Either way, we encourage you to check our site often to learn about us, follow our progress as a team and of course, keep in touch as we explore Japan.

We thank Rotary in advance for the adventure of a life time and to all readers, we invite you to share our excitement and join our journey.

Sincerely,

GSE Team Japan 2009

Weekend in Nevis

Thanks to Rebecca's Aunt and Uncle, we were able to hold our September GSE Team Japan meeting at a beautiful cabin in Nevis, Minnesota.
Aside from Ben and Julie deciding at the last minute to challenge the team to an "Amazing Race" in Minnesota's prime agricultural area ... except they were the only two playing (i.e we got really lost and arrived in Nevis quite late), the weekend went off without a hitch (generally).

After indulging in delicious meals cooked by chef extraordinaire (Ann Perry), we were able to isolate ourselves from distractions and hammer out our video montage presentation against a backdrop of breathtaking scenery. Our work led us to be creative...taking video footage while canoeing and creating an end scene with us all in the lake in our clothes shouting out a thank you to Japan. The footage was fantastic, allowing us to incorporate some old fashion humour into our presentation. Now....we just hope we can get it off the camera which...seems to want to keep the footage all to itself.

Aside from working by the fire, in the dark under the stars, we were also able to reconnect with Chris and George who both play a fundamental role in the GSE program. As always, they brought humour to the table as well as margaritas and "chicken especiales" as we dined at Companeros Mexican restaurant in picturesque Dorset, Minnesota.

Overall, our weekend Nevis retreat was a big success. Great work was done and we shared many laughs. Especially when Ben had to do the dishes after being narrowly defeated at an intense late night game of "P & A".

Bye for now and thank you to all who made this weekend possible,
GSE Team Japan
