Welcome to the travel blog of Rotary District 5580's Group Study Exchange (GSE) Team which will embark on an exciting five week goodwill / vocational exchange to Nagoya, Japan in November, 2009.

Here, our hybrid American-Canadian team of enthusiastic and adventurous young professionals, along with our lovely, talented and fearless team leader, will share cultural experiences and engage in unique vocational learning opportunities.

If you have come to this site, you are likely: a Rotarian, family member, friend or colleague of one of the team members, or... are just plain blog-curious. Either way, we encourage you to check our site often to learn about us, follow our progress as a team and of course, keep in touch as we explore Japan.

We thank Rotary in advance for the adventure of a life time and to all readers, we invite you to share our excitement and join our journey.

Party Time: Country Western Style (by Julie)

On Sunday (November 22), our GSE team attended a wonderfully fun garden party hosted by Mr. Fukaya (Rotary Foundation Chair). The party was similar to a western bbq with everyone gathered in the back yard sharing many laughs and delicious food (cooked by Charlie and many Rotarians). We were all very surprised when Mr. Fukaya pulled out the country western music and a number of cowboy hats (which we all had the chance to wear). Since we were all enjoying the music, we even had the chance to kick up our heels with a tiny bit of line dancing which led to even more dancing in the Fukaya family's house. One of the highlights of the day was hearing a live music concert performed for us on a Japanese flute-like instrument constructed by bamboo. The musician not only played Japanese music, but also American and Canadian music. It was a sincere pleasure to see this very talented artist play. We certainly appreciated his talented especially after we realized that despite many attempts, none of us could play the instrument. He's so talented, he's even played in Nashville. Once again, a big thank you goes out to the Fukaya family for their generosity and for hosting the party in their stunning home. It was an excellent party and I think it's fair to say, fun was had by all. Yee-haw!!!!
