Share our Excitement & Join our Journey

Welcome to the travel blog of Rotary District 5580's Group Study Exchange (GSE) Team which will embark on an exciting five week goodwill / vocational exchange to Nagoya, Japan in November, 2009.

Here, our hybrid American-Canadian team of enthusiastic and adventurous young professionals, along with our lovely, talented and fearless team leader, will share cultural experiences and engage in unique vocational learning opportunities.

If you have come to this site, you are likely: a Rotarian, family member, friend or colleague of one of the team members, or... are just plain blog-curious. Either way, we encourage you to check our site often to learn about us, follow our progress as a team and of course, keep in touch as we explore Japan.

We thank Rotary in advance for the adventure of a life time and to all readers, we invite you to share our excitement and join our journey.

Tour by Tokoname City Council Member Inoue Kyoko (by Julie)

In between our tour of Muraski-Loen Nursing Institution and a fun filled afternoon at Aichi Health Plaza (details coming soon), I had a personal tour of Tokoname's City Hall by Council Member Inoue Kyoko. During our tour we had the chance to swap ideas for revenue generation during a recession and discuss women in politics. I also got a 101 on the structure of goverment in Japan. As you will see, my tour included playing mayor for a few minutes. Interestingly, Tokononame City hosts an annual conference that brings ceramics experts and artists from around the world to the city. All the teapots in this statue like structure are ceramic. (Note: Far North Branch, I wish you were all here when I blurted out "Holy Teapot").

  1. This trip seems amazing...I think your group may be prepared to run the world by the time you get home... What an incredible number of opportunities for learning and collaborating-I'm really enjoying your updates. Leanne

  2. Your blog is fascinating, and a treat to follow! I am anxious to hear the stories! Savor EVERY moment!
