Share our Excitement & Join our Journey

Welcome to the travel blog of Rotary District 5580's Group Study Exchange (GSE) Team which will embark on an exciting five week goodwill / vocational exchange to Nagoya, Japan in November, 2009.

Here, our hybrid American-Canadian team of enthusiastic and adventurous young professionals, along with our lovely, talented and fearless team leader, will share cultural experiences and engage in unique vocational learning opportunities.

If you have come to this site, you are likely: a Rotarian, family member, friend or colleague of one of the team members, or... are just plain blog-curious. Either way, we encourage you to check our site often to learn about us, follow our progress as a team and of course, keep in touch as we explore Japan.

We thank Rotary in advance for the adventure of a life time and to all readers, we invite you to share our excitement and join our journey.

Sincerely,

GSE Team Japan 2009

Rockin' Out at the Hard Rock Cafe Nagoya - MJ Style (by Julie)

From country music to an unexpected Michael Jackson tribute...we just can't seem to tear ourselves away from the GSE committee. On Sunday after the garden party at Mr. Fukaya's house, a group of us decided to dine chez Hard Rock Cafe Nagoya (this came after a full two hours of karaoke). We could not believe our eyes when the table sitting directly across from us (about 20-ish ppl) broke out into dance when Michael Jackson's "Beat it" video came on the television. It was a site to see and some of us (named Rosie), tried to get in on the action and learn the dance. The video we have does not do the dance justice and this photo only provides a small snapshot but the ad hoc peformance by 20 was just spectacular.

You might not realize it yet, but your entire team has now challenged your friends and colleagues at home to have you demonstrate your karaoke skills on home soil!

I am sure that we are all looking forward to your safe return and our opportunity to witness a demonstration of these skills!
