Welcome to the travel blog of Rotary District 5580's Group Study Exchange (GSE) Team which will embark on an exciting five week goodwill / vocational exchange to Nagoya, Japan in November, 2009.

If you have come to this site, you are likely: a Rotarian, family member, friend or colleague of one of the team members, or... are just plain blog-curious. Either way, we encourage you to check our site often to learn about us, follow our progress as a team and of course, keep in touch as we explore Japan.

We thank Rotary in advance for the adventure of a life time and to all readers, we invite you to share our excitement and join our journey.

The Only Way To Travel: Boston Whaler Style (by Ben)

After our Rotary meeting and lunch today, I was treated to a trip to downtown Nagoya for an early dinner. By car this is about a 30 minute trip filled with endless stoplights. In a Boston Whaler with a 300 hp motor, we made it there in about 10 minutes. It was a great way to see Nagoya from a different angle. We traveled up the river to a point about 1 km from our home base hotel. On the way back we docked at a riverside restaurant and enjoyed some BBQ.

It's certainly the fastest I've traveled in a narrow canal, but he was a very good driver and traveled the route many times before.

  1. That was a perfect fishing opportunity Ben. The speed was a bit too high for trolling though.
